Elin (yr 11), Delyth (yr 9) and Gruff (yr 5) Dickson

“I have three children in St Clare’s – Elin (year 11), Delyth (year 9) and Gruff (year 5). A few years ago, their mother Gem was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. Both at the time of the diagnosis and in the years that followed, the family at St Clare’s were simply wonderful, caring for our beautiful children and making sure that whatever was going on at home, school remained a stable and safe environment for them.

Three years ago she was hospitalised and then eventually came home, needing huge amounts of care and medical support. Throughout this the school accommodated everything, from being flexible on arrival times to making sure that my daughter could sit her exams around hospital appointments and visits.

When Gem died two years ago, the school wrapped around the children and gave them all the support they needed. Many teachers came to the funeral, which shows how deep respect goes in this wonderful school. The love and help we had was overwhelming. Since Gem’s death, St Clare’s has been an extension of our family and I believe that if it hadn’t been for the family of St Clare’s, we would not be healing as we are now.

The loss of St Clare’s to us would be immense and if there is anything that can be done to save this precious institution, we will do it.”
